The great Cohost migration begins!
It's officially October 1 here in Japan and with Cohost going into lockdown within presumably the next several hours, that means it's time to get my hands dirty and start porting over my previous long-form posts from there. The final rollout could take some time to complete depending on my work schedule and how much I ultimately decide to transfer, but so far the current plan looks like this:
Up front, the focus will be on my old dating sim write-ups. I've technically had an outlet for my proper essays for years by way of my old Medium account, which I do intend to still maintain. But since these Cohost posts were typically written somewhat more off-the-cuff even by my standards, for now, I'm only going to transfer them here. Any future big boy essays will still get posted onto that Medium account with at least a proper announcement post here. I may well ultimately decide to just cross-post outright, but I haven't entirely made up my mind yet since for now, I want this blog to feel more relaxed in tone and structure like my Cohost account has been (or at least, I hope it's come across that way!).
Given my preponderance to be a poor self-proofreader when I write anything that I wasn't paid to compose, which I'm sure will remain the case with this very post, I intend to give each Cohost port at least a basic polish pass to clean up any messiness that was originally present. Some minor edits beyond that may also get implemented for added clarification, etc, but the bulk of the main content will otherwise likely remain identical to what I originally ran. That said, given Cohost's image posting limitations for most of its lifespan, I may well go in and add additional screenshots or shift the locations of existing ones as I see fit, so... look forward to even more pictures of dating sims than ever, I guess!
At first, I'll be porting over stuff that I specifically tagged as #dating sims. Eventually, the intention is to manually pore over my entire posting history so as to ensure that all of my bases are covered. That may take a while because, y'know, it's two years and change worth of history to shift through. It's probably during this phase that I'll also shift my focus to bringing over posts from other tags. I don't really anticipate a whole lot of that stuff making it over and obviously the public archive of Cohost will eventually make all of my output accessible regardless for anyone who really wants to dive through it all, but maybe some of my more general posts on Japan and whatnot could end up on here? We'll see!
Again, I have no ETA on how long this process will take and I'll probably still post some new stuff here, partly as a change of pace and also just because I'm gonna want to talk about other things going on now! And I'm still feeling my way around how Bear blogs function, so it'll be a nice opportunity to figure out what all I can do on here.
Anyway, sit tight and if you were a newer follower on Cohost especially, I hope you enjoy reading some of these pieces for the first time! It was nice to finally have a better outlet than Twitter to delve into these interests and I'm excited to carry that on here. 😌
Talk soon!
